A common question amongst travelers to Mexico is whether or not to travel to Mexico during the hurricane season. The answer to this question is different for everyone and really boils down to your level of comfort regarding the possibility of inclement weather.

In Mexico, hurricane season falls between June and November. If you don’t mind traveling to the country during the other parts of the year, you can avoid this question altogether. By choosing to book your Mexican vacation during the months of December through May, you can enjoy a hurricane-free travel experience. Please note that on rare occasions, hurricanes do occur out of season.

Another way to avoid a bad-weather situation during hurricane season is to book your trip farther inland. If you can forgo a beach-side resort, you’ll have much less chance of a hurricane affecting your trip to sunny Mexico. Besides, there is much more to see and do in Mexico, than lying around on the beaches.

Since hurricane season lasts for approximately half of the year, many travelers still book and enjoy their vacations during this time. To increase your chances of avoiding a hurricane, book your vacation during the earlier or later parts of the season, as most hurricanes occur during the months of August through October.

For those of you who do decide to book your vacation during hurricane season, you’ll notice some great advantages – the resorts are less crowded and accommodations and airfare can be purchased at discounted prices. Also, because hurricane season falls during the summer holidays, it can be a great time for a family vacation. With the kids already out of school, you won’t have to worry about them missing valuable class time.

There are a few things to remember, however, if you do decide to book your vacation during hurricane season. First, it’s important to check that your travel insurance will have you covered if you need to cancel or shorten a trip because of a hurricane. You will also want to monitor the weather situation closely before and during your vacation and read up about hurricane safety before leaving home.

There are a lot of things to think about when deciding whether or not you should take a trip to Mexico during hurricane season. By taking the time to look at both the advantages and disadvantages of both options, you will be better able to decide which is right for you.
